Evesham Wheelers

Weekly Rides

Our weekly rides aim to provide both exercise and an enjoyable social time. There are usually club rides every week on both Wednesdays and Sundays. They all feature a coffee stop and aim to return to Evesham by around lunchtime – typically about 1 – 2 pm. Riders choose the pace of the group that suits them best, so all levels of rider are catered for.

Each ride will have a leader and a destination café. The run leader will wait for any riders off the back and ensure no one is left behind. The whole group will wait for any rider who punctures or has mechanical trouble.

The club Calendar lists all club rides, events, and functions but detailed destinations for the regular weekly rides are advertised on the club’s Facebook page. The groups and meeting places are summarised below.

Whether you are new to the club or to riding in a group (in fact even if you are a very experienced rider), please read and observe the club’s Group Riding Guidelines which will help us make riding as enjoyable and safe as possible, both for riders and for other road users.

If you are new to group cycling and would like to try it out, you are very welcome to join us for up to 3 rides before joining the club.

Sundays
Meeting Point: High Street, at the junction with Oat Street
Time: 9:00am – depart 9:15am

Rides on Sundays typically cater to 3 different groups of riders (A, B, and C – see below). There are often 2 rides in the B group to cater for high numbers and varying paces. So, there are multiple rides with different destinations. This ensures that everyone can enjoy a ride that matches their distance and pace capabilities.

Wednesdays
Meeting Point: Bengeworth Roundabout, opposite Lidl
Time: 9:00am – depart 9:15am

Rides on Wednesdays are generally at C group pace, but typically there is a small group of B group riders as well.

What are A, B, and C group rides?
“C Group Ride” – A steady run, mainly over relatively flat terrain at an average speed of between 12 and 14 mph with ride distances varying but generally around 30 – 40 miles. Ideal for those new to cycling.

“B Group Ride” – A steady run over varying terrain. The Sunday B runs will typicallyaverage 14 – 17mph over distances of around 40 and 60 miles. There will frequently be a B1 and B2 ride at slightly different paces.

“A Group Ride” – A fast run over varying terrain aimed mainly at those members who enjoy a faster pace or intend to race. The average speed can be 18+ mph, and distances can be 50 – 60 miles or more.

A and B runs often have the same destination so that riders can ride out with one group and back with another if they so wish.

To repeat – whatever the run, the run leader will make sure no one is dropped and the whole group will wait for any rider who punctures or has mechanical trouble. Similarly, each rider has a responsibility to ride with the group he or she is most suited to, so as not to hold up or stretch the group unnecessarily.

The wearing of helmets is obligatory on Evesham Wheelers Club runs.

Unaffiliated Rides

One of the biggest advantages of belonging to the Evesham Wheelers is making friends with people who share your enjoyment of cycling. This provides a network that often results in opportunities to ride with smaller groups outside of the club’s regular Sunday and Wednesday rides. If you would like to take advantage of these rides, please see the contacts below:

Wednesday Wysteria Flyers Evening Ride: A fairly fast and roughly 25-mile ride averaging about 17 mph, departing from Wysteria Drive at 6.30 pm. Contact: Linzi via the club email: secretary@eveshamwheelers.org.uk

Friday Ebrington Ride: A fairly hilly ride at a steady pace (13-14 mph) starting at Ebrington Village Hall at 9.30 am every Friday. Contact Martin via the club email: secretary@eveshamwheelers.org.uk

Friday Social Ride: Leaving from Bengeworth Roundabout, opposite Lidl at 9.30. This is a social 25-30 mile ride with a coffee stop, at C group pace. Contact Carol via the club email: secretary@eveshamwheelers.org.uk
