High Mileage Club

2007 Year End Account by Mark Brazier
I can report a grand total of 22162 for 2007, it started as a target of 20,000 plus an aim to do some time trialling but I soon got too knackered to do the latter and the miles mounted up. At the end of June I was well over 11000, and even in spite of the dreadful weather, the cranks kept turning, helped a bit perhaps by the closure of our favourite pub for 5 months by the Severn floods, so a revised target of 22,000 seemed appropriate.

I can't see myself doing this again, the last month has been a grim chase down in dreadful weather and with Anne also chasing 13,000 (successfully) we have been spurring each other out in wet and cold and sometimes dark to get there.

Days of lost opportunity (ie too much work!) in the summer seemed a long way away during December, but we did enjoy some great days on the bikes in 2007, I would highlight our ride on the "long road" on Jura, (we didn't make the end of the track due to waterlogging but will return to finish it next year), and our successful ride to Foxton Locks and back at the third attempt

Also a year of a few mechanical mishaps, perhaps I am riding the bikes too much!

Neville Chanin and Geoff Smith

It looks like Neville has been ramping up his mileage again. We've just received this photo from Geoff Smith, an ex Evesham Wheeler who now lives in France.

"...just had a knock on the door today it was your president Neville, had a good chat, then he carried on, on his 3000kms sortie,..."

Photo by Mark Rigby, of the 1.6 million miles team!

The above picture was taken on 17th June 07 at the Boat at Ashleworth and shows Mark Brazier (center) with a full pint of what Mark terms as "Rocket Fuel" after having just arrived from the club run to Newent.  His distance was 98 miles and he'd just received a load of abuse for not doing the extra 2 miles before arriving!

With Mark is our President, Neville Chanin and right of Mark is John Fisher (from the Forest of Dean).

All three are members of the 300,000 club. Mark Brazier has done 335,000 miles, Neville Chanin has done well over 600,000 miles, and John Fisher has done virtually 700,000 miles!  For a long time, he was the youngest rider to get 300,000 membership, achieving this in his thirties.
