Audax 2008

Report by David Gostelow (Guest rider on 200km)

This article was submitted by David for inclusion in Audax UK Magazine.

I rode the 4 leaf clover on Sunday 10th August. The HQ was at Wickhamford just outside Evesham and it was organized by John James and Evesham Wheelers. It was an excellent event with some nice views of the Cotswolds and Cotswold villages.

The fact that it does 3 loops coming back to the HQ each time means that you can ride light and pick up essential supplies on each loop and take advantage of the excellent tea and cakes at HQ.

It was an extremely windy day and I was riding up a hill on the second loop when I saw what I thought was a wooden fence across the road. As I got nearer I realized the wind had brought a medium sized tree down, straight across the road. It can only have happened in the few minutes before I got there as I later spoke to the rider in front of me and it had been OK when he went through and just after I got there cars started arriving.

I took a few pictures, and then climbed over the tree and continued on my way while the drivers had to turn around and find another route.
